My first project of my second semester was a team assignment to document a building from the 1900s and recreate it in digital format. The first week of the project was to be all hand done, from floor plans, to wall section, to elevations. During the second week of the assignment I was to transfer the information into digital medium by using KeyShot, SketchUp, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
The project was to teach students about how documentation of a building might occur. It also taught the students the importance of hand drawing skills and the ability to recreate what they see before them. Students were encouraged to use photography, watercolors, and Copic markers when detailing and presenting information about the project.
One interesting aspect of the building was the back half of the building was involved in a fire a few years ago. This allowed the students to see the differences of the original building and the new construction, as well allow the students to see how old material was repurposed. I contributed to the project by photographing the building, detailing and taking measurements for the second floor space, editing sections and floor plans in Illustrator, and hand drawing the elevations.
